HEALIN THE RIVER
Direction: Mariana Fagundes
Project Status: Completed
Genre: Experimental short film | 17' | 2019
Production: Noctua
Synopsis
An old friend of the Krenak ethnic group, Watú - the famous Rio Doce - is ill. Through a shamanic ritual, body and nature come together for a prophetic dialogue that sees catastrophe, but also the salvation of the river.
The film addresses a tragic event in the life of Rio Doce, which bathes the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo and whose hydrographic basin is one of the most important in the Southeast. The event is considered the industrial disaster with the greatest environmental impact in history involving tailings dams. Healing the River brings a new approach to the tragedy, whose artistic bias is a fundamental element to continue sensitizing people about what happened. In the face of illness, there is an urgent need for action, even if it is to expose the wound that is open.
